Nancy Marie (Gomes) Wojnar passed away peacefully at home after a long illness. Nancy was predeceased by Henry and Mary Gomes, her former husband Edward K. Wojnar and survived by her son David, daughter in law Melissa and grandsons Nathan and Jacob. Nancy was a long time art teacher in the New Bedford Public Schools. She always put her family first and was loyal as the day is long. Nancy worked hard and earned her Master’s Degree from UMass Dartmouth while raising her son and caring for her aging parents. “Ma” didn’t suffer fools, she cared more about the underdog than the rich and connected and was a charitable and free spirit- a true hippie at heart. An accomplished painter she had an eye for home decorating and loved her shopping sprees at Marshalls. She drove a hard bargain and when she put her mind to something it got done. She will be missed and we are thankful for her unconditional love and shining example. A special thank you to Cheryl Gagne for her comfort and to all of the amazing health care professionals who provided her care along the way especially the team of the SouthCoast VNA Hospice program who gave us the gift of spending time with her in her home. In accordance with Nancy’s wishes a private service will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Nancy’s name to Southcoast VNA-Hospice, 200 Mill Road Fairhaven.
