Acacio "Casey" Goncalves, 60, of Winthrop, passed away after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Born in Mourilhe, Portugal, he was son of the late Antonio Goncalves and the late Balbina (DeCastro) Goncalves and the loving husband of Elaine (Ballai) Goncalves.
Acacio loved family time and cherished every moment spent with them. He loved New England sports and was especially passionate about the Patriots and the Celtics. Coming to the United States in 1969, his family settled into the New Bedford area. He was a baker and the previous owner of Mister Donuts until his move to the Greater Boston area. He later continued to work at Whole Foods and Home Depot.
Acacio leaves behind his wife, Elaine; son, Phil Goncalves and his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Melissa Goncalves and her husband, Gabriel DeJesus; step-children, Jorge Santos, Andre B.C. Santos, Erica DoSantos Schueng; brother, Antonio Eliseu Goncalves; sisters, Maria Fernanda Mourao, Fatima Figueiredo, Maria Ines Drolet; and his grandchildren, Olivia Goncalves, Phil Goncalves Jr, Lola Goncalves, Evan DeJesus, and Ethan DeJesus.
A visitation for Acacio will be held at the Boulevard Funeral Home on Monday, April 15th from 4-7pm. His Funeral Mass will be said at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, April 16th at 10am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
