Alberto Ramos

Alberto Ramos 91of Acushnet, passed away, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday June 29, 2011 after a long illness at St. Luke’s hospital. He was the husband of the late Rosa (Coelho) Ramos and son of the late Francisco Rodrigues Marmelo and Maria deRosario Ferreira. He was born in Linhares da Beira, Portugal and had lived in this area since 1958. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Mr. Ramos was a union laborer for local 385 in New Bedford until his retirement. He was a member of the Portuguese American Athletic Club. He enjoyed working in his garden, playing his accordion, playing cards and the Benfica soccer club. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his sons Manuel Ramos and his wife Eugenia of Acushnet, Joe Ramos and his companion Cammy Cerrati of Long Island N.Y.; Frank Ramos and his wife Lucy of New Bedford; his daughter Maria Odette Borges and her husband Tony of Acushnet; his brothers Baltazar Marmelo and Joao Marmelo both of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jose Marmelo, Manuel Marmelo, Antonio Marmelo and Rosa Soares. His funeral mass will be said Saturday 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Friday 5-8pm Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery.
