Alda (Soares) Rebello 89 of New Bedford passed away Friday June 27, 2014 at the New Bedford Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Arthur F. “Babe” Rebello and daughter of the late Francisco and Antonia (Tavares) Soares Jr. She was a lifelong New Bedford resident. Alda was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was formerly employed as a machine operator at Continental Screw Co. and also for the New Bedford School Dept. in the cafeteria. She was a former member of the Panthers Golden Agers and the Mt. Carmel Seniors. Survivors include her granddaughters Veronica Washer and her husband Jeff and Melanie Sweeney of New Bedford; her grandson John Sweeney II and his wife Corrie of Maine; 5 great grandchildren Christopher and Arthur Washer, Collin Sweeney, Max and Emma Sweeney; her great-great grandson Dominic Washer. Her son-in-law John Sweeney. She was the mother of the late Nancy Sweeney and Bobby Rebello. Her funeral mass, with her cremains present, will be said Monday July 14, 2014 at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church at 9:30am. Everyone is requested to meet at church. Visitation will be 4-6pm Sunday July 13, 2014.Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the American Cancer Society
