Alice H Mattos

Alice (Henriques) Mattos, 92, of Fairhaven passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 6, after a brief illness at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA.

She was born January 22, 1933 in New Bedford to Antonio Henriques and Diamantina (Costa) Henriques. She was the devoted wife of the late Daniel Mattos Sr. to whom she loved, honored, and cherished forever. She endured the loss of three sons, Daniel Jr., David and Joseph M.

Her greatest accomplishment was being a mother to her twelve children, whom she would proudly brag about so often. Her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her family. She was blessed to see three generations of grandchildren. Alice was the proprietor of Danny’s Seafood Restaurant, New Bedford, MA. along with her husband Daniel. She enjoyed many winters at their home in Port Charlotte, FL. with her husband and sisters. She loved playing rummy with her grandchildren, word searches, trips to the casino, and scratching tickets, but most of all sitting at the restaurant talking with all the customers.

Survivors include her children, Gail Konerth, Alice Mello and her husband Wayne, Antonio, James, Paul and his partner Paula, Jacintho and his partner Madeline, Dennis and his wife Dawn, Diamantina and Maria Mattos. Her sister, Lea Freitas, a daughter in law, Elaine Mattos, 34 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 6 great, great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. Alice was also preceded in death by her sons in law, Andrew Konerth and Anthony DeCosta, and her siblings, Manuel and James Henriques, Eva Farias, and Irene Hicks.

The Mattos family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the nurses and staff on the Crapo ward, 4th floor, for treating our mother with the utmost care, compassion, and dignity.

A visitation will be held on Sunday March 9th at the Boulevard Funeral Home from 3-7pm. Her Funeral Mass will be said Monday, March 10th at St. Mary's Parish in Fairhaven at 10am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
