Alvaro L DaCosta

Alvaro L DaCosta, 83, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at St. Luke's Hospital. He was born in Quintela de Azurara, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose DaCosta and the late Ana Jesus Lopes and husband of the late Gracinda (Carmo) Costa. 

Coming to the United States in March of 1977, Alvaro was a gifted stone mason by trade but also worked for many years at Knapp Shoes and Tweave Textiles. He took great care in his garden, making sure all his trees and plants were well cared for. He was a passionate supporter of S.L. Benefica and could be found watching their games. 

Survivors include his sons, Augusto DaCosta and his wife Angela, Carlos Costa, Antonio DaCosta and his wife Dalia, Jose DaCosta and his wife Michelle; daughters, Adosinda Ferreira and her husband Fernando, Kelly Pereira and her husband Victor; brothers, Adelino, Jose Antonio, Arnaldo; sisters, Lourdes, Natalia, Ceu, Madalena; Grandchildren, Jessica, Deidre, Meagan, Ashley, Alysen, Ian, Logan, Cameron; great grandchildren, Elijah, Tazmyn, Landon, Luca, Lila and many nieces and nephews.

Alvaro is preceded in death by his wife; siblings, Francisco, Manuel, Augusto, Belmiro and Avelina. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 13th from 5-8pm at the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd New Bedford. His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 14th at 10am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
