Antonio F. Pavao (Tony), 65, of New Bedford, born in Sao Miguel, Azores, passed away unexpectedly on January 15, 2024. He was the loving son of the late Joao Pavao and the late Zenaide (Torres) Pavao.
Tony graduated from SMU Dartmouth in 1985 with his bachelors degree in Biology. He loved science and drug development technology. Before his retirement he was employed at Ore Pharmaceuticals, Genzyme, and Mass Eye and Ear Research. He also had worked for the New Bedford Health Department and the Chapter of the American Red Cross.
He dabbled in entrepreneurship as he successfully developed and patented a non toxic C U Bug Spray. Tony loved to travel to his beloved homeland of Sao Miguel. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his Portuguese and Chinese cuisine. Tony was a proud U.S. citizen and could debate politics with the best of them.
Antonio is survived by his two sisters; Maria Pavao and Paula Stone and her husband Glenn Stone. He loved his nephew and nieces; Ian, Paige and Kyla Stone and he always had a close relationship with his cousins and friends; Francisco Torres, Tony Cardoso and his wife Fatima Cardoso, Laura McCarty and her late husband Dr. Michael McCarty.
A visitation with cremated remains will take place at Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Boulevard, New Bedford, MA 02746 on Saturday, January 27th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a memorial service at 5:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to a local animal shelter of your choice.
