Avelina (Vieira) Leite 74 of New Bedford passed away Saturday March 3, 2012 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the widow of Isaias Furtado Leite and daughter of the late Jose Vieira Paulino and Inez (Vieira) Paulino. She was born in Fernais da Ajada, Ribeira Grande, St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford for 33 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Mrs. Leite was formerly employed as a stitcher for Jody Sportswear until her retirement. Survivors include her sons Isaias Furtado of New Bedford, Mario Furtado of Florida, Valdemar Leite of North Kingston, RI, Dennis Leite of New Bedford; her daughters Inez Fonseca, Irene Maria Fagundes, Filomena Arruda, Sandra DosSantos all of New Bedford, her brothers Hermano Vieira of the Azores, Joao Vieira of New Bedford, Evaristo Vieira of the Azores, Casimiro Vieira of Cranston, RI; her sisters Almorinda Silva of New Bedford, Clotilde Daniel of Bermuda, Maria Jose Lemos of New Bedford, Filomena Tavares of Attleboro; 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Her funeral mass will be said Tuesday 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Monday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery
