Biatriz Fernandes

Biatriz (Dos Santos) Fernandes 85 of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at St. Luke's hospital on Saturday January 2, 2010. She was the wife of Manuel Fernandes and daughter of the late Joao and Natevidade Dos Santos. She was born in Nabainhos, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford since 1967. Mrs. Fernandes was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church, where she was a member of the charismatic group. She was formerly employed as a stitcher at Cliftex until her retirement. She was a volunteer at the Tabor Mill apartments helping with the "meals on wheels" program. She was a very hard worker. Survivors include her husband; her son Jorge Fernandes of Acushnet; her daughter Maria Patrocina Vinagre of New Bedford; her brothers Antonio Santos and Joao Santos both of New Bedford; her sister Zaida Silva of New Bedford; her grandchildren Brian Fernandes, Christine Vinagre, who was her care giver, and Michael Vinagre; her great-grandchildren Sabria Neves, Genessa Neves and Kayla Fernandes; also several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Amelia Dos Santos and Cremilda Esteves. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Thursday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visitation will be Wednesday 5-8pm. Burial will be in Pine Grovecemetery.
