Carminda Monteiro

Carminda (DaFonte) Monteiro 86 of New Bedford passed away Friday June 8, 2012 at the Brigham and Women’s hospital. She was the widow of Jose Monteiro and daughter of the late Joao and Maria (Fernandes) DaFonte. She was born in New Bedford and was a long time resident. Mrs. Monteiro was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was formerly employed as a stitcher at Justin Clothing until her retirement. Survivors include her sons Armando Monteiro of Woodford, VA, Fred Monteiro of New Bedford, Jose Monteiro of New Bedford, Antonio Monteiro of New Bedford; her sisters Ana Sousa of New Bedford and Maria DaFonte of Portugal; 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late John Monteiro. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Monday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Sunday 5-8pm.Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
