Dorothy Marie (Wolowiec) Richard, “Dottie”, 85, of Acushnet, peacefully passed away after years of declining health on May 23, 2024. Dottie was born in Fall River and was the daughter of the late William Wolowiec and the late Celia (Kudlacik) Wolowiec. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond Richard. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Mary Academy in Fall River and graduated in 1958 from the Saint Anne’s School of Nursing as a registered nurse. Dottie worked as an RN in many settings to include St. Anne’s Hospital, Horseneck Beach, Boston Hospitals and finally retired in 2001 from the City of New Bedford as a community nurse. In 2001 she   began her most important and enjoyable job, caring for her grandchildren. In her healthy days Dottie enjoyed baking, gardening, making chocolates, and knitting. She enjoyed long rides down the Cape and her weekend getaways with Ray to Foxwoods. Dottie was an animal lover and was known to take in any stray, her most beloved being Twilight the cat.

She leaves behind her daughters Jennifer Richard of South Boston, Stephanie Duprey and her husband Marc of Acushnet and two special grandchildren, Bryce Duprey and Riley Duprey, all of which she lived with for the past 12 years as well as lifelong friends Patricia Cyr and Beth Nunes who have been there in good times and bad. Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Raymond Richard.

The family would like to thank Community Nurse Home Care for many years of caring to keep Dottie well along with Community Nurse Hospice team and The Oaks Nursing Home for providing support and compassionate care as her journey was coming to an end.

In accordance with her wishes, Dottie will be cremated. A Memorial Mass with her cremated remains present will be held June 29th at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, New Bedford at 9am. 

Immediately following Dorothy's services the family welcomes everyone to join them for a repast at Bittersweet Farm Restaurant, 438 Main Road, Westport, MA. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Nurse Homecare and Hospice, 62 Center St. Fairhaven, MA.
