Dorothy Fernandes

Dorothy (Freitas) Fernandes 85 of New Bedford passed away Monday January 12, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Anthony Joseph Fernandes and daughter of the late Fortunato V. and Maria (Machado) Freitas. She was born in Dartmouth and had lived in New Bedford for many years. She was formerly employed as a supervisor for Farmington Business Cards and in the office at Shepard Clothing. Survivors include her Son David Fernandes of Bradenton, FL; her daughter Carolyn Richard of Lakeville. 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren also several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Irene Fernandes and Mary Jasinski. She was also the companion of the late Manuel Carvalho of Portsmouth, RI. A funeral service with her cremated remains present will be held 11 am Tuesday. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
