Elsie Barreiro

Elsie (Gracia) Barreiro 93 of New Bedford passed away Saturday May 28, 2011 at the Alden Court Nursing and Rehab. Center. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Barreiro and daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Araujo) Gracia. She was born in Fairhaven and had lived in New Bedford for many years. She was formerly employed by Economy Blouse as a stitcher and then as a bookkeeper for various companies until her retirement. She also had worked part time at Sowle the Florist. While growing up in Fairhaven the sisters were known as the “Gracia girls”. Survivors include her sisters Irene Soares and Josephine Leal both of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Wayne Barreiro and sister of the late Hilda DesRoches, Lillian Gracia and Evelyn Gagne. Her funeral mass will be said 11am Friday at St. Mary’s church in New Bedford.
