Elvira Fernandes

Elvira Fernandes 88 of New Bedford passed away Thursday October 2, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Conceicao (Rezendes) Fernandes. She was a lifelong New Bedford resident. Elvira was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was employed by her fathers’ company, Perfection Brands, as a supervisor until her retirement. She was a former member of the Portuguese American Civic League of Dartmouth. Survivors include her brothers Dr. Antonio Fernandes Jr. of Dartmouth, John Fernandes of Warwick, RI; her sisters Lydia Jacintho of New Bedford and Odelia Cardoza of Acushnet; also many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Her funeral mass will be said Monday 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Sunday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
