Flavio Duarte

Flavio Duarte 62 of New Bedford passed away Sunday February 7, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Fatima P. (Medeiros) Duarte; they were married for 32 years. He was also the son of the late Alvaro and Belmira (Sousa) Raposo. Flavio was born in Ponta del Gada, St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford since 1976. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Mr. Duarte was employed by UMass Dartmouth in the maintenance dept. He was a fan of all sports, especially the Porto soccer team. He was a member of the Porto Soccer Club and the St. Michael Club. Survivors include his wife; his daughter Julianne Viveiros and her husband William of New Bedford; his sister Stelia Silva and her husband Mario of Middletown, RI; his brother Elio Raposo and his wife Ilda of New Bedford; his granddaughter Milania Viveiros. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Joao Medeiros and his wife Olga of New Bedford, his sisters-in-law Margarida Medeiros and her husband Emanuel of New Bedford, Maria A. Dufault of Portsmouth, RI also many nieces and nephews. His funeral mass will be said Thursday 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours will be Wednesday 5-8pm.Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
