George A Fairbanks III

It is with great sadness that the Fairbanks family shares the loss of the esteemed George A. Fairbanks III of Fairhaven, MA on April 15, 2024. George was born in Cambridge, MA in 1938 and was raised in Taunton, MA as the oldest son of George A. Fairbanks Jr. and Mary Fairbanks. He was a long-time resident of Raynham, MA, Jackson, NH and Fairhaven, MA. George originally taught Physics at Northeastern University and then obtained his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University and had a long-time law practice in Taunton, New Bedford, Hyannis MA and Jackson, NH. George’s continued love and passion for education and math was evidenced by his work on the Raynham Board of Education and recently teaching math at the Naval Academy in Newport, RI and New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. He is predeceased by his parents and 3 brothers Doug, Albert, and Harold. George’s love of life, dedication and love for his family will be greatly missed by his wife Frances Fairbanks; his 3 children Clarisse Fairbanks, Camille Babanikas and Larry Fairbanks; their spouses and partners William Lake, Gus Babanikas and Robin Fairbanks; 9 grandchildren Nathan, Abigail, Gabriella, Sophie, Michael, Katie, Nicky, Fiona and Zoe; two siblings Paul Fairbanks and Rosemary Gary; and the many family, friends, colleagues and students George greatly influenced and impacted with his knowledge, kindness and humor. Please join our celebration of life for the great man who was our father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, colleague and professor. Calling hours are from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, June 8th at Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd in New Bedford, MA, with a brief service at 12:15 pm, immediately followed by a luncheon at 1:30 pm at the Country Club of New Bedford, 585 Slocum Road, North Dartmouth, MA.
