Gracinda Leitao

Gracinda (Machado) Leitao 83 formerly of New Bedford passed away on Sunday July 31, 2011 at the UMass Memorial Healthcare. She was the wife of Antonio Leitao and daughter of the late Sylvester and Maria (DeJesus) Machado. She was born in Chaves, Tras Os Montes, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford from 1967 until 1985 when she retired and moved back to Portugal until 1990 when she moved to Worcester. While in New Bedford she and her husband owned Marilu Shoes and Handbags. Survivors include her son Carlos Machado and his wife Maria of New Bedford; her daughter Maria “Lurdes” Leitao- Pina and her husband Dr. Jan Leitao-Pina of Worcester; her grandchildren Brian Machado, Daniel Machado and Sydney Leitao-Pina. She was the grandmother of the late Jordan Leitao-Pina. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her funeral mass will be said 10am Thursday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Bedford. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5-8pm.
