Ilda C Carvalho

Ilda C. Carvalho, 96, of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024 at Sacred Heart Home of New Bedford . Born in Serra de Estrela, Portugal on August 1, 1927 to the late Joao and Carma (Henriques) Goncalves, Ilda was the devoted wife of the late Antonio M. Carvalho for 64 years and together they had 10 loving children. 

Ilda was a stitcher at Riverside Manufacturing for many years. One of her favorite things to do was to cook warm, inviting meals for her big family, and it was without a doubt that her family meant everything to her. She also truly enjoyed gardening and was very proud of her U. S. citizenship. 

Survivors include her sons; Eduardo Carvalho of New Bedford, Carlos Carvalho of Acushnet, Manuel Carvalho of New Bedford, Artur Carvalho of New Bedford, Jorge Carvalho of North Dartmouth, Augostinho Carvalho of North Dartmouth, Joao Carvalho of New Bedford and Abel Carvalho of Fairhaven and her daughters; Ana Escobar of South Dartmouth and Isabel Coelho of New Bedford. 

Ilda is also survived by her brothers; Augostinho Goncalves of New Bedford, Jose Goncalves of Portugal, Abel Goncalves of Portugal and her sister; Erminia Goncalves also of Portugal. 

She leaves behind a legacy of 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Ilda was predeceased by her 2 brothers; Antonio Goncalves of New Bedford and Lucio Goncalves of Portugal and her sister; Ceu Gomes of New Bedford. 

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Monday, February 26th at Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd in New Bedford. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, February 27th at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church with a burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
