Inez Furtado

Inez (Viveiros) Furtado 94 of New Bedford passed away Monday December 5, 2011 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the widow of Bento Furtado and daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Viveiros. She was born in St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford for 51 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Mrs. Furtado was formerly employed as a seamstress for Deerfield Manufacturing until her retirement. Survivors include her children Maria Fatima Medeiros of New Bedford, Darlene Costa of New Bedford, Maria Andrade of South Carolina, Horacio Furtado of New Bedford, Rico Furtado of Fairhaven; her sisters Conceicao Carvalho of New Bedford, Lurdes Arruda of New Bedford, her brother Jose Viveiros of Florida; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Oliver Furtado, Laudalina Pereira, Lurdes Arruda; she was the sister of the late Henrique Viveiros, Ambrozina Medeiros and Virginia Correia. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Friday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-8pm. Blvd. Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery.
