Irene Baptista

Irene Baptista 87 of New Bedford passed away Saturday August 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mariano J. and Angelina (Couto) Baptista. She was born in New Bedford and was a life long resident. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Irene was formerly employed as an assembler at Aerovox for 40 years until her retirement. Survivors include her brother Manuel Baptista of New Bedford; 3 nieces Karen Huffines and her husband Jerry of N.C., Cindy Cordeiro of New Bedford, Ann Marie Baptista of New Bedford; 2 great nieces Jessica Cordeiro and Amanda Cordeiro and her fiancé Jake Parker; a great nephew Ryan Cordeiro all of New Bedford; 3 great-great nephews, a great- great niece; and her sister-in-law Mary Baptista of New Bedford. She was the sister of the late Mariano “Muddy” Baptista. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Thursday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
