Irene Lavado

Irene C. Lavado, 73, passed away at home on January 27, 2016 surrounded by her devoted husband of 50 years, Adelino, and 2 loving daughters Lisa and Dianne, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in New Bedford, MA, she was the youngest of four children of the late Manuel and Albina Calado. She was the first in her family to graduate from college and spent nearly 40 years teaching in the New Bedford School System. Irene loved dancing, and in her younger years danced in the Portuguese folkloric group Clube Recordacoes De Portugal and made lifelong friends there. Upon her retirement she enjoyed traveling, especially to see her family and friends in Florida, playing games with her grandchildren, bingo and attending church bazaars. In addition to her husband Adelino M. Lavado, Irene is survived by her daughter Lisa Devaney of N. Palm Beach, FL and Dianne Lavado of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Son-in-law Tim Devaney and 3 grandchildren Julia, Connor and Olivia Devaney; sisters Clementina Conchinha, and Isaura Serode and her late brother Carlos Calado. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.  Visitation will be 5-8pm on Sunday January 31st, 2016. Funeral Mass will be held at 9 am Monday, February 1st at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, New Bedford.
