James Gonsalves

James Gonsalves 78 of New Bedford passed away Tuesday July 5, 2011 at the Oak’s. He was the former husband of Joan (Gonsalves) Gonsalves of Springhill, FL and son of the late Bernardino and Albertina (Teixeira) Gonsalves. He was born in New Bedford and was a life long resident. He was formerly employed by Eastern Sportswear as a supervisor presser and at St. Luke’s hospital as a heavy cleaner. Mr. Gonsalves retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. Survivors include his former wife; his daughter Sharon Gonsalves of Lakeville; his step daughter Donna Garcia of Jacksonville, FL; his step son Mark LaFazia of Labelle, FL; his sisters Livia Gonsalves and Lucia Scott both of New Bedford; many nieces and nephews and his cat midnight. He was the brother of the late Mary Gonsalves, Helen Gonsalves and Francis Gonsalves. His funeral service will be 10am Saturday. A visiting hour will be from 9-10 am. Burial with military honors will be in St. John’s cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
