J. Arthur Ross, 81, of Acushnet passed away Monday, June 19, 2017 at home with his family by his side after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Rose M. Ross to whom he was married for 59 years. Like many of their generation, they met at the Lincoln Park Ballroom dancing to big band music of their era. Born in Dartmouth, son of the late Alcide and Aurore Y. (Briere) Ross, he lived most of his life in Acushnet and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of New Bedford. Arthur worked for New Bedford Gas and Edison Light Co. / Commonwealth Electric Co. for 39 years serving as a service repairman and other positions until his retirement in 1996. He was an active member of the UEW Local 333 serving in a number of leadership capacities over his career. Throughout his life Arthur was a devoted and caring husband, father and grandfather to his family. He especially enjoyed family gatherings for holidays, birthdays or other milestones where he often prepared his culinary specialties. Arthur was widely known by family and friends as a hard worker, with an innate ability to repair or build anything and always to the highest standard of quality. He enjoyed family vacations to New Hampshire and spent many summer weekends at his brother’s lakeside cottage on Long Pond in Lakeville. In retirement he enjoyed peaceful afternoons relaxing in his yard and enjoyed rooting on the New England Patriots each fall. He is survived by three sons and a daughter: Karl D. Ross of New Bedford; Darlene M. Peixoto and her husband Stephen of New Bedford; Dean A. Ross and his partner Ted Ngo of Riverside, RI; and Thomas E. Ross and his wife Kerrie Bellisario of Morristown, NJ; a sister, Jacqueline M. Ross of Dartmouth; and four grandchildren, Anthony R. Peixoto; Stephanie M. Peixoto; Cameron J. Ross; and Nathaniel J.
