Joao DeSousa

Joao C. DeSousa 71 of New Bedford passed away after a brief illness on Saturday February 4, 2012 at St. Luke’s hospital. He was the husband of Fernanda (Braga) DeSousa and son of the late Luis and Maria Gloria (Vital) DeSousa. He was born in St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford since 1977. He was a communicate of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Mr. DeSousa was formerly employed as a welder for Dyerlite Inc. until his retirement. He was a member of the Centro Luzo Club. Survivors include his wife, his daughters Margarida Breault of Acushnet, Elisabeth Caetano of Fairhaven, Maria C. Pacheco of New Bedford, Maria G. Lira of New Bedford, Maria F. Levesque of New Bedford, Sandra DoRego of New Bedford and Carmen DeSousa of New Bedford; 15 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson. His funeral mass will be said 9am Thursday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5-8pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
