Joao Moura

Joao “Jose” Moura 87 of New Bedford passed away Thursday April 14, 2011, after a long illness, with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Arminda (Dias) Moura, who passed away March 27, 2011. They would have been married for 60 years on March 31. He was the son of the late Jose Goncalves Moura and Felicia Goncalves da Eira. He was born in Gralhos, Montalegre and had lived in New Bedford since 1966. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. He was formerly employed as a machine operator for various manufacturing companies until his retirement. He was a farmer while living in Portugal. Mr. Moura enjoyed gardening and was a fan of F.C. Porto. He was also a former member of Clube Recordacoes da Portugal. Survivors include his sons Domingos Moura of New Bedford, Jose Moura of New Bedford, John Moura of Cibolo, Texas; his daughters Albertina “Tina” Rodrigues of Acushnet, Maria De Moura of New Bedford; his brothers Joao Goncalves Moura of Pinho, Portugal, Antonio Goncalves Moura of Montalegre, Portugal; 9 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter, 1 great-grandson on the way, many nieces, nephews, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws. He was the brother of the late Joaquim Moura, Domingos Moura, Adelina Alves and Ana Pereira. His funeral mass will be said 9am Tuesday at Our lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Monday 6-9pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
