Joao Silva

Joao Vieira Silva 85 of New Bedford passed away Thursday November 3, 2011 at St. Luke’s hospital. He was the husband of Almorinda (DeMelo) Silva and son of the late Serafim DaSilva Horta and Amorina Paulina Vieira. He was born in Ribeira Seca, Ribeira Grande, St. Michael and had lived in New Bedford for 38 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Mr. Silva was employed by Cliftex in the maintence dept. until his retirement. He was an avid fan of the Benfica soccer team. Survivors include his wife; his sons Joao M. Silva of Canada, Jose Eduardo Silva of New Bedford; his daughter Filomena Cumming of Florida; his brothers Eduardo Silva of Canada, Serafim Silva of Canada; his sisters Maria Damas of Freetown, Conceicao Arruda of Canada, Angelina Janeiro of Canada; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel and Jose Silva. His funeral mass will be said 9am Monday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-8pm.Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.
