John Martins

John A. Martins 62 of New Bedford passed away Wednesday February 9, 2011 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Teresa (Abreu) Martins and son of the late Joao and Rosa (da Neves) Martins. He was born in Portugal and had lived in New Bedford since 1979. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist church. Mr. Martins was the former proprietor of Lydia’s Bakery. He was a member of New Bedford Sports Club, United Fisherman’s Club, Portuguese American Athletic Club and Clube Recordacoes de Portugal. Survivors include his wife, his daughter Christina Martins of New Bedford, his brother Manuel Martins of New Jersey, his sisters Ilda Travelho, Rosa Cartaxo both of New Jersey and Lourdes of Portugal; his grandchildren Brenda Borges, Louis Borges Jr., Joshua Borges; many nieces and nephews. His funeral mass will be said 8:45am at St. John the Baptist church. In accordance with his wishes visiting hours are omitted and he will be cremated.
