Jose Andrade Duarte, 68, of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 after a brief illness.
Affectionately known to many as “Pee Wee,” Joe was born July 28, 1949 in Feteira Pequena, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, and was the son of the late Jose and Cecilia Cabral. He served in the Portuguese army before immigrating to the United States in his early 20s. He has been a resident of New Bedford since that time and proudly became a US citizen. He worked for Chamberlain Manufacturing for several years before becoming the owner and cook of the Golden Arrow Café. He was later a cook at Ponta Delgada, Sixth Bristol, and most recently Panthers Social Club.
He was an avid soccer fan and proud supporter of Benfica. He found great joy in cooking for his family and friends.
He is survived by his brother, Alberto “Burger” Andrade; sister, Gilberta Cabral; niece, Stephanie Kacik and her husband Ed; great-niece and great-nephew Whitney and Eddie Kacik; girlfriend Eduarda, many cousins, and countless friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday November 3, 2017 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception in New Bedford and will be followed by burial at Pine Grove cemetery.
