Josephine Pacheco

Josephine (Rezendes) Pacheco 92 of New Bedford passed away Wednesday August 13, 2014 at her home with her loving daughter Arlene, who was her caregiver for the past 10 years, by her side. She was the wife of the late Anibal Pacheco and daughter of the late Antonio and Elvira (Pacheco) Rezendes. She was born in New Bedford and had lived in Connecticut for many years before returning to New Bedford 27 years ago. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Josephine worked for the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Ct. for many years and also for various manufacturing companies, including making parachutes, in New Bedford. She was a member of the Greater New Bedford Garden Club. She was an avid seamstress, enjoyed quilting, donating many of her quilts and was also a very energetic person. Survivors include her daughter Arlene Getchell of Fairhaven; her brothers Ernest Rezendes of Acushnet, George Rezendes of Bellingham; her sister Lucinda Matthews of New Bedford; also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elvira Meenahan of Bowie, Maryland. Josephine’s family would like to give a special thank you to her home health aides who lovingly cared for her for the past 5 years. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Saturday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Friday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
