Leonard Joao

Leonard E. Joao 69 of New Bedford passed away at St. Luke’s hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Sandra (Silva) Joao and son of the late James and Georgette (Monty) Joao. He was born in Acushnet and lived in New Bedford all of his life. He was formerly employed as a maintenance mechanic for various manufacturing companies including the Bacon Felt Co. He was a U.S. army veteran and a member of the 6 ^th Bristol Club. Survivors include his wife, step-daughters Danielle Blaise and her companion Arthur Lariviere of New Bedford,  Deborah Demers and her husband Crispin of New Bedford, Jill Blaise and her companion Carla Britt of Maryland, sister Margaret Moniz of Fairhaven; 5 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Plante. His funeral service will be held Thursday 11:15 am.Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8pm. Burial will be in the Veterans National cemetery in Bourne
