Lucinda Matthews

Lucinda "Lu Lu" (Rezendes) Matthews, 85 of New Bedford, passed away at home on Sunday, June 5th. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and late Elvira (Pacheco) Rezendes and wife of the late Donald "Matt" Matthews. Lucinda was a devout Catholic and long time communicant of St. John Neumann Church in East Freetown. She worked as hairdresser in her younger days before becoming a Teacher's Aid at Casimir Pulaski School and then finally a food service professional at New Bedford Vocational, from where she retired. Many of her days and nights were spent bowling or out on the dance floor where she loved to square dance. Lucinda is survived by her son, Gregory Matthews; daughter, Chris Dumont; brother, George Rezendes; grandchildren, Jami Tripp, Kelsey Machado; great grandchildren, Jalee, Ember, Freya; lifelong friends, Lorraine, Jeannie, Sandy, and Linda. She is preceded in death by her son, Wayne J. Matthews; siblings, John, Joe, Ernest, Tony, Josephine, and Elvira "Vee". Lucinda's Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Neumann Parish in E. Freetown on Monday, June 13th at 10:00am with burial to follow in St. John Cemetery. A visitation will be held Sunday 2-5pm.
