Luis Duraes

Luis C. Duraes 91 of New Bedford passed away Tuesday May 29, 2012 at the New Bedford Healthcare Center. He was the husband of the late Maria C. (Pinto) Duraes and son of the late Manuel C. Nunes Duraes and Eduarda T. DosSantos. He was born in Serneda, St. Comba Dao, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford since 1966. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church.  Mr. Duraes was employed by Continental Showcase as a carpenter until his retirement. Survivors include his sons Manuel C. Duraes of Fairhaven and John P. Duraes of New Bedford; his daughter Maria C. Alves of New Bedford; his brothers Joao Nunes Duraes of Portugal, Antonio Duraes of Florida; his sisters Eulalia Baptista of Portugal, Helena T. Duraes of New Bedford, Margarida DaSilva of Florida, Alice DaSilva of New Bedford, Isabel Botelho of New Bedford; 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel T. Duraes and Natalia Flynn. His funeral mass will be said 9am Saturday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are 4-8pm Friday.Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
