Luzilia (Avelar) Valadao 96 formerly of New Bedford passed away Saturday June 27, 2015, after a long illness, at Our Lady’s Haven. She was the wife of the late Antonio Valadao and daughter of the late Jose Jacinto and Maria Julia (Avelar) Avelar. She was born in Ponta del Gada, Flores, Azores and had lived in the New Bedford area since 1967. Mrs. Valadao was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was formerly employed by Elco Dress as a seamstress/trimmer until her retirement. Survivors include her daughters Estela Jesus and her husband Albert of Fairhaven, Maria Avelar Pinheiro of Terceira; her brothers Antonio Avelar, Joao Avelar and Jacinto Avelar all of New Bedford; her sisters Leonor Ventura of Ponta del Gada, Flores and Policena Ribeira of France; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Jose Valadao of Lisbon. She was also pre deceased by 10 brothers and sisters. Everyone is invited to attend her funeral mass 10:30am Tuesday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are kindly omitted. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
