Manuel Antonio Amaral 77 of New Bedford passed away Thursday November 16 at Care One of New Bedford. He was the husband of Isaura “Hazel” (Arruda) Amaral and son of the late Manuel J. and Sofia (Medeiros) Amaral. He was born in St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford for many years. Manuel was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in New Bedford. He was the founder and original proprietor of Amaral’s Fish Market. He was a member of the New Bedford Sports Club. Survivors include his wife, his son Steve Amaral and his wife Celina of Florida, his daughter Susan Amaral and her best friend Sandra Cocchi of New Bedford, his brother Oldemiro Amaral and his wife Ana of Canada, his grandson Bruno Michael Amaral of Florida, his sisters-in-laws Esmera Amaral and Isabel Arruda both of New Bedford, his brother-in-law Jose Arruda and his wife Manuela of Acushnet. He is also survived by nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada. His funeral mass will be said 10am Monday at St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford. Visitation will be Sunday 4-8pm. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul society of St. Mary’s parish.
