Manuel M. Lavado, 84, of New Bedford passed away Monday, January 18, at his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth M. (Mendes) Lavado; they were married 56 years ago in Santa Clara, Coimbra. He was the son of the late Belchior and Zaida (Ferreira) Lavado. He was born in Freixo da Serra, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford since 1956. Manuel was formerly employed as a machine operator at Acushnet Company, Rubber Division, for over 30 years. He was a founding member of the Portuguese American Athletic Club and served as vice president. He took great pride in his vegetable garden, liked to walk on the beach, was an avid soccer fan and a member of S.L Benfica, for many years. Survivors include his wife, his son Paul A. Lavado of New Bedford, his brothers Adelino Lavado of New Bedford, Teofilo Lavado of New Bedford, his sisters Rosa DeSousa of New Bedford, Amelia Cardoso of New Bedford and Clemencia Raposo of New Bedford. His funeral mass will be celebrated 10am, Monday, January 25 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in New Bedford. His visiting hour will be 8:30am until 9:30am at the Boulevard Funeral Home 223 Ashley Blvd. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Attendance is limited at the funeral home. Guests are asked to pay their respects and depart to allow the next guest to enter. Thank you for your cooperation.
