Maria Furtado

Maria Teresa (Moniz) Furtado 72 of New Bedford passed away Friday November 2, 2018 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was the wife of Jose R. Furtado and daughter of the late Luis Moniz and the late Maria Jose Camara. She was born in Lomba do Loucao, Povoacao, Sao Miguel, Acores and had lived in New Bedford since 1985. Maria was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a home maker and enjoyed cooking, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and crocheting. Survivors include her husband, her sons Jose l. Furtado and his wife Maria A. Furtado of New Bedford, Roberto C. Furtado and his wife Fatima Furtado of New Bedford, Helio Furtado and his wife Nelia Furtado of New Bedford and her daughter Maria Marques and her husband Fernando of New Bedford. She is also survived her sisters Maria Mello of New Bedford and Ana Frias of Sao Miguel, also 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late David Camara, Jose Pacheco, Antonio Moniz, Lurdes Raposo and Maria Camara. Her visiting hour will be 7:30 – 8:30 am Tuesday November 6 at the Boulevard Funeral Home 223 Ashley Blvd. Followed by her funeral mass at 9:00am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 309 Waverly Oaks Road Waltham, MA 02452.
