Maria Beatriz (Mateus) Luis 82 of New Bedford passed away Saturday January 5, 2013 at Our Lady’s Haven. She was the wife of Joaquim Luis and daughter of the late Joao and Maria Jose (Florencia) Mateus. She was born in Livramento, Portugal and had lived in New Bedford since 1961. Mrs. Luis was a communicant of Our lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was formerly employed as a seamstress at Cliftex until her retirement. Survivors include her husband, her daughters Lucy Politano and her husband Dennis of Taunton and Lea Matthew Ahaesy and her husband Edward Scott Ahaesy of Fall River; her brother Joaquim Mateus of South Dartmouth; her sister Deolinda Jardin of Acushnet; her grandchildren Tyler Politano, Mayah Ahaesy, Ian Ahaesy, and Kiana Politano; many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Maria Rosa Costa, Manuel Mateus, Madeline Augusto, Antonio Mateus, Americo Mateus and Irene Leiro. Her funeral mass will be said Tuesday 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Monday 5-8pm. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery
