Maria Martinha Melo

New Bedford

Maria Martinha Melo, 88, of New Bedford, passed away at St. Luke's Hospital on July 21, 2024. Born in Salga, Sao Miguel, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Ernesto Correia and the late Senhorinha (DeSousa) Correia. 

She was the cherished wife of Jose deMelo for many loving years. She was a seamstress at Cliftex and she loved to knit and cross-stitch. Maria also loved to garden and bake and truly enjoyed hosting her friends and family. She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church for over fifty years. 

Maria is survived by her loving husband Jose; her brothers, Jose DeSousa and his wife Maria and Fernando Correia and his wife Margarida; a special niece, Chelsea Silva and her husband Joshua and their children, Niko and Lucca; and many more adoring nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her brother, Manuel Correia. 

Visiting hours for Maria will be on held the morning of Friday, July 26th from 8:30-10:30 AM at Boulevard Funeral Home. Her funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Bedford. Cremation will follow and a burial will be scheduled at a later date in St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
