Maria Umbelina

Maria Gloria (Machado) Umbelina, 92, of Fairhaven passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021 at Alden Court Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Jose Viveiros Umbelina. She was born in St. Michael, Azores to the late Joao Machado and Sofia (Sousa) Machado. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a house wife who enjoyed hand embroidery and a love for the Boston Bruins. She also loved making dollies for her “Angels” at Alden Court. She had a way of making everyone she met laugh and was accepting of every type of person who came into her life. She is survived by her son, Antonio J. Viveiros of Newton, daughters; Jorgina M. Umbelina of New Bedford and Grace Resendes of New Bedford, sister-in-law, Merces Machado, grandchildren; Steven A. Viveiros, Michael J. Viveiros, Amy M. Bigos, Destinee L. Viveiros, Alex Vieira, and Elliot F. Resendes, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Joao Viveiros and brothers Jose Machado and Joao Machado. Special thanks to her “Angels” at Alden Court Nursing Home for the wonderful and attentive care she received. A visitation will be held Tuesday, October 5th at the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, from 5-8 pm. Her Funeral Mass will be said Wednesday, October 6th, at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception at 9am. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. All attendees are required to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
