Maria Cristina Arruda

Maria Cristina (Oliveira) Arruda 87 of New Bedford passed away Tuesday June 27, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Eduardo F. Arruda and daughter of the late Antonio Oliveira Arruda and Eusebia Soares. She was born in Santa Barbara, St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford since 1968. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Maria was a baby sitter to her grandchildren. Survivors include her sons Duarte Arruda of New Bedford, Gabriel Arruda of Acushnet, Antonio Ferreira of New Bedford; her daughters Maria Hirondina Goncalo of New Bedford, Leonilde Medeiros of Westport and Maria Manuela Mello of Dartmouth. She is also survived by her brother Alfonso Arruda of New Bedford, 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Her funeral mass will be said 9am Saturday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Friday 5-8pm. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.
