Mariana Matos

Mariana (Couto) Matos 94 of Acushnet, formerly of New Bedford passed away Thursday October 4, 2012 at St. Luke’s hospital. She was the widow of Joao B. Matos and daughter of the late Manuel and Rosa (De Aguiar) Couto. She was born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores and had lived in the New Bedford area for 44 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Mrs. Matos was formerly employed as a stitcher for Cliftex until her retirement. Survivors include her daughter Maria Iveta Torres and her husband Jose of Acushnet, the owner of Yvettes Boutique, her granddaughters Christina Melo and her husband Luis, Stacey Macaroco and her husband Paul, Oanaki Torres; her great grandchildren Alex, Ariana, Amber and Skyla, also many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Manuel Couto, Maria Carvalho and Jose Couto. Her funeral mass will be said Tuesday 9am at our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visiting hours are Monday 5-8pm.Burial will be in St. John’s cemetery
