Martinho De Gouveia 84 of New Bedford passed away Saturday November 6, 2010 at St. Luke’s hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Maria I. (Gomes) De Gouveia and son of the late Antonio De Gouveia and the late Miquelina Fernandes Belo. He was born in Santa Cruz on the Island of Madeira and had lived in New Bedford since 1952. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Mr. De Gouveia was employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing as a shell pusher until his retirement. He was a member of the Clube Madeirense S.S. Sacramento and the Clube Sport Madeirense. He was happiest being with his family and going to Madeira every year. Survivors include a brother Joao De Gouveia of Brazil, his sisters Laurinda Veloso, Maria Barreto, Teresa Poeira all of New Bedford and Celeste Marques of Brazil. Also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Agostinho F. De Gouveia of New Bedford and several other brothers in Brazil. His funeral mass will be celebrated 9am Wednesday at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception church. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-8pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery
