Mary R Freitas

Mary R. (Fernandes) Freitas, 93, of New Bedford, peacefully passed away at home on July 1, 2024. Born in Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Fernandes and the late Cristina (Rodrigues) Fernandes and wife to the late Oscar D Freitas.

She enjoyed being a teacher's aide in the New Bedford school system and everyone knew that one of her most favorite things to do was cooking delicious meals for her family. Mary had a large, loving family. 

She is survived by her son Peter and his wife Yu Shan of Dartmouth; her three daughters, Audrey and her husband Barry Saucier of Fairhaven, Sidney Knox, wife of the late Guy Knox of New Bedford; and Kelley Freitas of New Bedford. Two brothers, Carlos Fernandes of London and Jose Fernandes of Madeira; her sisters, Lucinda Vasconcellos of Madeira, Iria Fernandes of London and Maria Corcoran also of London. Mary had five grandchildren, Matthew and Ian Knox, Tenley Martins, Holland Saucier-Pires and Leah Freitas and ten great-grandchildren, Victoria, Dylan, Brendan, August and Noah Knox, Anthony Costa, Maeley Martins, Norie Pires, Tayber Martins and Lennox Pires, as well as many nieces and nephews, and each and every one of them will miss her dearly. 

In accordance with Mary's wishes, her services were held privately.
