New Bedford- Maurice Gagnon, aged 79 years, died Thursday September 10, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long battle with prostrate cancer. He was the husband of the late Olga (Wanat) Gagnon. He was the loved father of Christine Gagnon of New Bedford. Maurice was the brother of Leo Gagnon of Dartmouth and the late Omer Gagnon, Juliette Murphy and Yvonne Aubin. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces. Mr. Gagnon was the son of the late Alfred and Palma (Brodeur) Gagnon. He was born in Hartford,CT., and lived in this area most of his life. He was an Air Traffic Controller at Otis Air Force Base until he retired in 1980. Maurice was a well-known caller on WBSM Radio Station. He was a great animal lover, his cats Orion and Taurus, as well as his beautiful dove of 23 years Mr. McCoo survive him. He was a member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Amateur Radio Club, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Maurice served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots Fan. Religious services will be Monday, September 14th, at the Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Boulevard at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be prior to the service starting at 8:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven, Ma., with full military honors.
