Serafim deAlmeida 92 of Fairhaven passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Royal of Fairhaven. He was the husband of the late Fernanda (Abrantes) deAlmeida and son of the late Joaquim and Maria Jesus deAlmeida. He was born in Fall River and raised in Portugal, moving back to New Bedford in 1952. Serafim was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Fairhaven. He was employed in the construction industry until his retirement. He was a former member of the Centro Luzo Club, Portuguese American Athletic Club and the Laborers Union Local 385. Survivors include his daughter Joyce Mello and her husband Joseph Mello II of Fairhaven; his grandson Joseph Mello III; his sisters Maria daGraca Almeida and Emelia Jesus Almeida both of Portugal. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jose deAlmeida, Manuel Almeida and Eliza Almeida. His family would like to thank The Royal of Fairhaven, especially the second floor nurses and all the staff for the kind and compassionate care he received. They would also like to thank Fidelis Hospice for the support and comfort during this difficult time. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held 10:00am on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church, Fairhaven. All his family and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Fairhaven. According to his wishes calling hours are omitted.
