Son Hui Batista

Son Hui (Kim) Batista, 80, of New Bedford passed away at home on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Born in Taipan, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Mak Nae Kim and the loving wife of James Batista for 54 years.

Son Hui was born in Japan and raised in Korea before coming the United States in September of 1970. She worked for many years as a stitcher in various manufacturing businesses. She took great pride and loved spending as much time as possible with her granddaughter Cali. She could often be found at some casino somewhere stamping her bingo card or playing slots. Son Hui had a passion for fashion and loved cats.

She is survived by her husband, James; daughter Lisa Kim Batista of New Bedford; granddaughter, whom she adored with all her heart, Cali Kim Zwacki; brothers, Sun Dong Kim and wife Lisa of Germany, Sun Ku Kim of Dartmouth; sisters, Sun Ja Kim of New York, Sun Ae Kim of Somerset; nieces, Michelle Chen, Susie Ferreira, Gina Ferreira, Sun Ah Kim, Kayla Kim, Kelby Bacchiocchi; nephews, Brandon Lee, Kyle Kim and many great nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Janet Kim; nephews, Soo Hwan Chen and Dennis Ferreira.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Michelle Chen, Dr Parajuli, The Doctors at Beth Israel Deaconess, Southcoast VNA & Southcoast Hospice for providing wonderful support and care. 

In accordance with her wishes, Son Hui will be cremated.
