Virginio Amaral

Virginio Amaral 81 of New Bedford passed away May 9, 2017 at home. He was the husband of the late Herminia (Correia) Amaral and son of the late Manuel and Maria Espirito Santo (Canadinha) Amaral. He was born in Ponta Graca, St. Michael, Azores and had lived in New Bedford since 1973. Mr. Amaral was a communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was formerly employed by Alden Shoe until his retirement. He was a member of the Clube Sport Madeirense; he enjoyed his early morning walks and was a very simple man. Survivors include his son, Antonio Amaral of New Bedford, his daughters Lucy Leite, Fernanda Campeau, Margaret Amaral all of New Bedford, Julieta Melo and Peggy McMahon both of Canada; his brothers Jose deCouto Amaral of St. Michael and Alfred deCouto Amaral of Montreal; his sisters Margarida Paiva of Ponta Graca and Germana Estrella of Montreal; 6 grandchildren also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ermerlinda Braga and Mercedes Marques. His funeral mass will be said Friday 9am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church. Visiting hours are Thursday 5-8pm. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
