William H. Correia 91 of New Bedford passed away Saturday June 20, 2015, after a period of declining health, at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Doris (Audette) Correia and son of the late Manuel and Rose (Resendes) Correia. He was born in New Bedford and had lived in this area all of his life. Mr. Correia was employed as a police officer for the City of New Bedford for 35 years. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Navy, as an Armed Guard, protecting transport and cargo ships. He served on the J.W. McAndrews, the USS California and several other ships. Survivors include his wife; his sons James Correia , William Correia both of North Dartmouth and Robert Correia of N.H.; his daughters Carolyn Weathers and Judith Mello both of New Bedford; 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Augustus James Correia, Calvin Correia, Albert Correia, Francis Correia, Manuel Correia Jr., Donald Correia and Mary Hayward. His visitation will be Thursday morning 10am until 11am when his funeral service will take place at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
